2017 NABET-CWA Local 16 Memorial Scholarships
This is the official application form for the 2017 James P. Nolan and Donald DiFranco Memorial Scholarships. This year we will award four (4) James P. Nolan Scholarships ($1000 each) and one (1) Donald DiFranco Scholarship ($1000) for the 2017-18 school term. Applications must be received at the NABET-CWA Local 16 office by Friday, May 26, 2017.
A random drawing will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 to determine the five winners. An applicant may win only one of the five scholarships. Applicants need not be present to win. Scholarship awards will be paid to the educational institution upon submission of verification of enrollment.
- The scholarships are open to sons and daughters of retired, deceased, or active members, in good standing, of NABET-CWA Local 16. Grandchildren are not eligible.
- Applicants must be enrolled in an institution of higher learning full-time during the 2017-18 school year. Previous winners are not eligible.
2017 NABET-CWA Memorial Scholarship Awards First Application
1. The scholarship is open to sons and daughters of active, retired, or deceased members.
2. Applicants must be students in a high school class graduating in 2017.
3. The award supplies $750.00 yearly for four years as a partial payment of tuition or other expenses to the school designated by the winner.
4. Winners must maintain at least a C+ average, or equivalent, during their four years in college and must attend full time.
The return date for the preliminary application is March 1, 2017. All applications must be verified by the Local President, in the space provided before mailing to the Sector Office at:

This is a merit based scholarship. Once the first application has been returned to the NABET-CWA offices, a second application will be mailed to the student. The student must complete the forms and submit a 500-1000 word essay, transcripts, and other supporting materials. Good luck!
About the Scholarship
Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $4 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. Over 2,700 families have benefited from our commitment to higher education. The Union Plus Scholarship Program is offered through the Union Plus Education Foundation, supported in part by contributions from the provider of the Union Plus Credit Card. (You do not need to be a Union Plus Credit Card holder to apply for this scholarship.)
Applications are available starting in mid-June, and a complete application must be received on or before 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on January 31, 2017. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
Fifteen partial college scholarships of $3,000 each are being offered for the 2016-2017 school year. Winners, selected in a lottery drawing, also will receive second-year scholarships of the same amount contingent upon satisfactory academic accomplishment. Part-time students, less than 12 credits, will receive half of the scholarship monies.
Eligible for the awards are CWA members and their spouses, children and grandchildren, including those of retired or deceased members.
